My Camera Journey

Back in 2016, my dad ordered me my first camera before I moved to Australia for a few months. It was the Sony a6000, and let me tell you, that little camera was (and still is) a game-changer. To this day, it’s the camera I recommend to anyone wanting to dip their toes into photography. Why? Because it’s so lightweight and easy to carry around. Fast forward a few years, and I decided it was time for an upgrade when I started doing Russellville Football. Enter the Sony A7iii. When I was looking to level up, my main priority was increasing Frames Per Second (FPS). I wanted to capture more of the action, and the A7iii delivered. It’s definitely bulkier than the a6000, but the improved low-light performance makes it my go-to second body during football season today. The difference in quality under those stadium lights? Night and day. The A7iii is a fantastic choice for sports photography and anyone needing a reliable camera for low-light conditions.

Then came last year’s upgrade: the Sony A7iv. While it didn’t give me any extra FPS (sadly), it upped the resolution game. This means I can crop my photos without sacrificing clarity, which is a massive win. Oh, and the low-light performance? Even better. It’s been my primary camera ever since. If you’re in the market for a high-resolution camera that excels in versatility, the Sony A7iv is worth every penny.

Now, let’s talk dream cameras. While I don’t plan on upgrading anytime soon, I’ve got my eye on two beauties: the Sony A9iii and the Sony A1. The A9iii boasts a global shutter and a jaw-dropping 120 FPS—but with lower resolution than my current setup, I’m not sold. My brain tells me 120 FPS is overkill (seriously, when would I need that?). The Sony A1, on the other hand, offers higher resolution and a bump to 30 FPS, which feels like the perfect middle ground. If you’re a professional photographer or dream of owning a camera that does it all, the A1 is the ultimate goal. Sony recently the version 2 of the A1 but it is yet to be released!

Through it all, I’ve remained a loyal Sony girl. With the amount I’ve invested in Sony bodies and lenses, I don’t see myself jumping ship anytime soon. The brand’s reliability, colors, auto focus and quality keep me coming back for more. From capturing stunning landscapes on hikes to nailing fast-paced sports shots, Sony cameras have been my trusty sidekick every step of the way.
